What is the mean of .UPD file system of KORG
(Sorry for broken English ;)
As you know, with new O.S. update files, Korg begins to work with new file system .UPD instead of .PKG.
Why Korg needs for this change and is there any innovations for Korg Users?
Basically, the two systems are the same in the base and there are no menu innovations for users on .UPD system. If so, why KORG needs to be changed?
The reason is that; to prevent hacking and infiltrating O.S. system. We know that, on .PKG system, it became possible to hack for example; adding sample kmp to Pa600, changing opening screen picture on Pa600, Pa900, Pa3x, adding sample record menu to Pa900, changing language files on Pa series and to delete systems sounds and open more free memory on Pa series. We know this from youtube videos. So, these hacking methods affected sales policy and trends of KORG.
By the new .UPD file type, Korg tries to block this illegal methods and it seems that in near future all new Korg keyboards and all old pa series keyboards will use this new .UPD system with O.S. updates.
By using .UPD system, we know that;
- keyboards open more quicker,
- freezings have been minimized
- cache memory helps to ram less tire
- devices responds quickly to commands,
- sound engines are more compatible with .UPD
Enjoy,
